It's Time for Skincare | Secret to Clear & Glowing Skin

What's the secret to clear healthy skin? Is it an elaborate skincare routine or derma friendly lifestyle? The answer is not as simple as you think.

I often come across clients who eagerly want to know the key to healthy skin and a natural glow. Is it a good skincare kit or a daily practice on a yoga mat? Well, the answer isn't as simple as you expect it to be. At first, it might seem like a whole mess of tips. But largely they're do's and don'ts. And of course, it calls for a little effort on your part:

‌‌WHAT MAKES A DERMA-FRIENDLY LIFESTYLE

‌‌First of all, it's important to take a quick look at our lifestyle before we proceed to a handy skincare routine. A healthy lifestyle is as necessary as a handy skincare routine.

‌‌NUTRITION: Let's start with Diet first. A healthy and well-balanced diet supplemented with fiber, vitamin C & proteins is an edible formula for nourished skin.

‌‌Mindless snacking, especially foods with a high-calorie density (gluten) and high doses of sugar and salt, takes a weary and teary toll on your skin and makes your face look dull & bloated.

‌‌HYDRATION: Next in your skin regime is the hydro formula. Drink at least 8 glasses of water during the day. Yes! Despite it being old and worn-out advice, it still works wonders for your skin in ways you possibly can't imagine but experience. It helps remove toxins and maintain that electrolyte balance for smooth & sparkly skin like water!

‌‌SLEEP: Next is sleep as part of the plan. As many times you've read, even more, important is to sleep for 7/8 hours a day. If you're sleeping less than 7/8 hours, you're stressing yourself out and it immediately shows on your skin. Optimum sleep relaxes your body, recharges your mind, and of course cheers up your skin.

‌‌EXERCISE: Our last quadrant (NUTRITION, HYDRATION, SLEEP, EXERCISE) in the plan is exercise! Daily exercise helps you release endorphins thereby relieving stress. Our daily grind at work and home throughout the day stores tension in our bodies and accumulates stress in our minds.

‌‌Your skin is too fragile & sensitive to carry off that baggage on its back and it almost immediately cries! Breakouts, dark circles, paleness, etc. are some of the ways it is used to throw temper tantrums to signal those trapped knots of stress in your body and brain. (GO, SHAKE IT OFF!)

‌‌So go out for a walk or do simple stretching exercises (I tell you, keep calm and do yoga!) to help release stress and relax your body and brain. See how miraculously it calms down frequent temper tantrums & smoothes your skin tone.

‌‌NOW IT'S TIME FOR A SKINCARE ROUTINE

‌‌Now that you know what constitutes a healthy lifestyle, let's talk about a handy skincare routine that can stay with you almost every day.

‌‌There are no excuses like: I don't have time, I am always on the move, etc. That hardly takes less than 16 mins out of your busy day and the results are shinier and brighter than you think.

‌‌Else, better not complain and live with that pale & drained look on that face. WAIT. What? Really? Don't be so lazy. To shine bright like a diamond, you need to work it up, honey! YOU GO, GIRL!! 💎

‌‌FACEWASH: For a proper skincare routine, it's important to choose a sulfate and paraben-free face wash to help you remove daily impurities and unclog pores. And do not leave your face without patting it dry for a long time after you've washed face. It sucks on natural oils secreted by your skin and makes your skin look dry & rough.

‌‌TONER: It won't be an overstatement: An alcohol-free toner is a game-changer in your skincare routine. It locks natural oils in your skin and helps shrink pore size. In addition, it reverses problems like hyperpigmentation and decolorization that comes with aging. For best results, dab it with cotton on your face and leave it to dry.

‌‌FACE GEL or FACE CREAM: Now I am someone who's not a big fan of cream-based sunscreens. I am big on using aloe vera gels from WoW that come with SPF properties. It's super light, chemical-free, and absorbs well into the skin, nourishes it deeply, and leaves it with a soft, smooth, and supple feel.

‌‌Also, I would recommend you cover your face when you step out in the sun. It is important to protect your skin from direct UV rays. And my bet is on covering your face with a cotton cloth and if necessary using an umbrella. (UNDER MY UMBRELLA, ehh ehh)🌂Avoid applying sunscreen lotions as much as possible, maybe at high altitudes. (PUT IT IN A BAG!!)

‌‌FACE MASK: Buy a good exfoliating mask, apply it all over your face, and go on a 15-minute RETREAT on weekends! Yes!! Practice loving kindness with affirmations and visualizations like:

-May I be free from stress, tension, and anxiety.🤷

-May I glow in love, peace, and happiness?💓

‌‌Now, this is for the day. It doesn't take much time and effort. After a few days, it becomes a part of your routine without even realizing it. Almost everyone does a bit more and less than this quite easily.

‌‌Now it's your turn to put that extra effort for the EXTRA GLOW on your face. When? Right before you go to bed. A night skincare ritual is as important as a daily skincare routine. Mind that. So what's for the night:

‌‌WASH YOUR FACE: Again, don't be lazy to wash your face and remove daylong settled impurities like dust and pollution before going to bed. As well as, do not forget to wash away that tension and anxiety.

‌‌PUT ON THAT CREAM: Now this one is a bit tricky and you need to do a bit of research to hit that magic formula for deeply nourished & hydrated skin. Every skin type is different, and you gotta figure out yours if it's dry, oily, or a combination.

‌‌Before you freak out about the amount of effort it takes. Typically, it doesn't take as long as you think. A daily night ritual of face massage/face yoga shouldn't take more than 4 mins.

And.., you're good to sleep on fine lines, dark patches, and uneven tones and wake up with a calm, collected, and natural glow on that beautiful face!
